Award-winning artist Fred Hulser, shown here at La Jolla, Cailf., discovered his interest in art in chldhood and nurtured it through high school and Columbia College in the City of New York.
He has attended classes at The Glassell School of Art in Houston, Texas and Montgomery College in The Woodlands, Texas. In addition, Fred has been fortunate to study painting with several contemporary masters, including William Kalwick, Jr., Quang Ho, Carolyn Anderson, Peggi Kroll Roberts, David Leffel, Kim English and Charles Reid. Bruno Lucchessi and Jan D'Esopo introduced Fred to the wonders of sculpture. Texas Expressionist Bill Herring has provided special help, criticism and advice in all phases of the artistic adventure. With a general preference for painting in oil, work also includes acrylic, watercolor and pastel. Sculpture is an additional passion, and Fred has cast several pieces in bronze with the remaining pieces are in fired terracotta. Fred paints loosely in the representational tradition in a direct, alla prima style, and he is curious about all subjects so paintings include portraits and figures, ‘scapes (landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes), florals, still life and wildlife - in other words, just about all life. Memberships include Oil Painters of America, Portrait Society of America, Outdoor Painters Society, Plein Air Artists Colorado, the Woodlands Art League and the Houston Civic Arts Association. His paintings hang in private collections in the United States, Europe and Puerto Rico. Born in Idaho, raised in Indiana, educated in New York and a veteran of 30 years in the Caribbean, Fred has learned to appreciate a variety of environments and peoples. Fred now lives in The Woodlands, Texas with his wife, Shay, a Texas native, and their labrador, Shadow, from North Carolina. |
